Channeling My Inner Emmett

Lately I've been channeling Emmett Clark.  You know, Emmett from The Andy Griffith Show .  You know, the guy that ran the fix it shop. You know, Emmett.  Nobody?

Anyway, back when dinosaur ruled the earth some people would fix stuff that was broken rather than just throw it out.  I'm one of those people.  My latest project was this run down Coleman Grill I found on Craigslist for free.

The ad said that it worked (it did) and just needed some cleaning.  That was an understatement.  It was filthy.  Also, the wheel were bent out and the fire pan was rusty.

My goals was not to restore it to it's previous glory.  I just wanted it to look nice.

Here are some the before pictures:

The inside lid.

The fire pan.

The grill.

The side tables.  Left one is a before.

Note the rusted fire pan, bent wheels, and oxidized igniter.

After:

Cleaned up, painted, replaced the igniter.
Used new rivet nuts to replace old to restore the wheels.

Looks and works great.  Worth it?  Probably not.  If was a fun project for me but it took about two weeks to complete and probably cost me about $70-$80 incremental.  Less half the cost of the newest version (mine:  Coleman NXT 200, new:  Coleman RoadTrip) but if you include the labor it would of cost about $4 million dollar.  Fun and interesting?  Yes.  Would I do it again?  Nope.  Sorry Emmett.
