Oops I Did It Again (Saved an old computer that is)

I have an old Dell laptop.  Eight years old at the time of this was written (Manufacture date: 2017).  It was, like me, getting old and slow.  When it slowed down a few years earlier, I changed out the hard drive for an SSD.   Worked like a charm.  This time when it slowed I considered switching it to a Linux distro like Linux Mint (MATE) but then I remember an old school trick and downloaded CCleaner.

The "C" in Cleaner stand for Cr*p.  That's what it does.  It clear the cr*p out of your computer.  I've been using the free version for off and on for over 20 years.  This time I opted for the paid version ($14.00 per year subscription)  and it made a huge different on boot time and other performance issues.  Worth every penny.  You can download it here:  CCleaner (NOT an affiliate link).  The free version might be all you need but the paid version does a lot more of the heavy lifting for you.

Also changed out the screen which after eight years was starting to delaminate.  Got the new screen off of eBay for $60.00 delivered.  Install was surprisingly after watching a few YouTube videos.  This one was especially helpful.  I considered myself "shakey" for the purposed of the video.    Something they did not mention in the video was there is some blue tape over the camera opening that have to be removed before installing the new screen.  Ask me how I know.

All in I spent less than $100 including buying some computer repair tools from Amazon.  Now the computer looks and runs like new.  Totally worth it.
